School of Nature Conservation was Founded in December 2004, the Ministry of Education and the State Forestry Administration jointly built the school. It is currently the only college in China that cultivates special talents for the construction and management of nature reserves. Beijing Forestry University is also the only institution in China that has a nature reserve college.

In 2017, EAAFPScienceUnit was established and operated at Beijing Forestry University in China, and received financial support from the Qiao Women Foundation and the Mangrove Foundation. The main tasks include: establishing an information platform for the East Asia-Australia migration area, expanding the network protection area for the East Asia-Australia migration area, organizing simultaneous waterbird surveys and monitoring, wetland management education and training, and expert technical services.
